During the 2014-2015 exchange programs the NLF-5-layered strategy was developed, with 5 major elements: (1) improved cattle and farm management; (2) strategic use of local breeds; (3) use of herbs and other natural products; (4) quality control of milk and other products; and (5) improved income for farmers form residue-free products. This is now being used for pilot studies and training programs for the reduction of the use of antibiotics and other chemicals in dairy farming.
